thoughts about ish
In my ongoing attempts to stay in constant contact with my students, I feel that I should also be staying in contact with my website. I've worked really hard to maintain JDKC, but I haven't updated as much as I have wanted to do so. Therefore, we are going to keep a version of the Corona Chronicles here as well. Mostly they will just be what I am posting for my kids in our google classroom, but I'll also be including some non-student appropriate stuff too. Sometimes. Depends on the way I feel and what I've written about, but the bones of it will come from my journals that the kids can read. So once again my dear readers, please click the "read more" button to see my insights and thoughts on my work from home journey.
This is our first official day of learning at home. Learning at home is going to be very different from learning in our classrooms because while I am giving you a guide what to do and how to do something, you should be able to exemplify the learner profile that we showcase throughout the school year. This is a time for all of us to be reflective on what actions we have been taking to prevent the spread of this virus and what we can be doing to continue our learning. We all need to be balanced in this time - taking in account the things we need to stay emotionally and intellectually stable. Think of the schedule I posted Tuesday to help you stay balanced and create a schedule that will give you time to build your mind intellectually and emotionally. Be a risk-taker! Take your learning into your own hands. Don’t wait for the teachers to assign something to you, go out and search for something on your own. Especially when you have to consider the daily journals I am asking you to write and to help you become better communicators. This is a time to express your feelings on things you’re reading and truly reflect on the situation. Be engaged in your readings. Tell us if you’re mad about this. How is this affecting you; how does this affect all of us? Newsela has a lot of great articles about what’s happening in the world that you should be able to access But most importantly, remember to be kind to one another and always be caring. These are hard times. Everything around us is shutting down and we aren’t supposed to leave our homes - your kindness is going to go a very long way while we all figure out how to make these adjustments. In my attempts to understand what is happening in the world lately, I’ve turned to newsela for some of my news and information. Mostly because it condenses the news into quick reads, but also so I can help pass that information on to you. As we keep saying, this is an unprecedented time when we are trying to encourage students to seek out the information for themselves. In the coming days, I will share some of the articles I’ve found and enjoyed and thought to be the most useful in understanding. But again, I’m encouraging you to try to find something to spark your interest and help you write about your perspective of what’s going on.
