“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live” – Albus Percival Wolfric Brian Dumbledore12/23/2010 In my recent viewing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone I realized a couple of things. One, Harry and Ron probably learned more from Hermione than they learned in classes and from professors. Second, (and I hate to say this) Dumbledore may have been wrong. I’m only saying this because I’ve chased my dreams and at times I’ve been unable to do normal teen things. I’ve been after Harry Potter and my dream of college since I was twelve years old (mind you by the time I was 16 I didn’t want to go to college anymore) and now at 18, I reached all of that. I used Harry and my extensive (unnecessary?) knowledge to first pass my English research paper last year and now get into college. If you ask what I’m going to major in when I go off to school next year I’ll tell you English with a concentration in Creative Writing.
It’s because of Harry Potter, you know. Without him (or J.K. Rowling for that matter) I don’t know if I ever would have gotten into reading. I may never have liked English classes and therefore would never have started writing. I used Harry for my college essay to about five schools. I wrote how I want to come up with a character that people love and care about. One that will inspire others to follow their dreams and to do what they want. So sorry to say Dumbledore, but it did do well to dwell on my dreams and occasionally forget to live. Maybe that’s the way to be successful, as long as you do remember to have fun sometimes. I guess that’s it. Stay tuned for the next post “Senior Year; Updates Galore” I’m Jackie and I still don’t know crap.
