The day most English II Honors students have been waiting for has arrived. The 13th of May; the day we leave for Boston.
However, this starts with the preparations. On May 12 I still had to pack all of the essentials. Meaning, I hadn’t even started yet. I knew what I wanted to pack, I just had to get it all together. When I had everything, I triedto fit it all into my lime green duffle bag. When that didn’t work, I moved onto my Marlboro duffle. Apparently despite the difference in shape, it’s exactly the same size. I was very disappointed. Eventually I had to cute back. I took out two shirts, three pairs of jeans, and i had to downsize on my makeup. It wasn’t until i was ready to zip it up that I realized I still wanted my blanket and bear. Thus starting yet another conflict. I had to move one box of granola bars from my carry on to my purse for my lion king blanket to fit in my carry on. Then came the next battle: “straightener v. bear.” I decided that both had to come to Boston with me. The straightener would go in my carry on with my blacket, magazines, and various books. Oh and it would still be hot when I went to put it away. Before I went to bed I made a list of things that I still had to pack for the morning: toothbrush, lunch, straightener, bear, and a reminder to grab my 2nd jacket and Mel’s hoodie. then as I walked down stairs I remembered that I still needed a luggage tag. Dad andI couldn’t find one, so I decided to make one. We took a clear collector’s card holder andpunched a hole in it. then we took an index card with my name and address and attached it to my bag. Homemade luggage tag. I set my alarm for 4:15 AM and went to bed. I was awake by 4:30 and out the door by 5:20. We had to get our bags checked andthen we were on our way around 7:15. For the first hour I played solitaire on my iPod and kept losing. then we made our first stop at 8:45 at a rest stop to switch drivers and go to the bathroom. We got into Pennsylvania sometimes between nine and nine thirty. I also fell asleep shortly after this. I slept until 11:30 when we stopped at a McDonald’s for lunch. After we ate I tried to fall back asleep but it wasn’t working. While I was texting Melany I realized that she is not the brightest person I know. Somewhere around 3:00 we got into New York and I saw the sign but missed the picture opportunity. At about 4:35 we got into Connecticut and spent two hours playing a game based off the movie “Cry Wolf.” Then we ate Burger King for an hour and continued our journey to the Fairfield Inn in Tewksberry, MA. We arrived at the hotel at exactly 9:06 PM. I was mostly excited because I was able to plug-in my now dead cell phone at this point. We had an hour and a half to do whatever we pleased in the hotel. Megan and I went to Steve’s room and used his webcam to morph our faces. I looked like a fat Chinese boy. That made Steve and Megan laugh even harder. The first day was mostly bus, but it was a good time anyway. I only had more good times to look forward to. On Thursday the agenda in cluded Walden Pond, The Old Manse House, The Emerson House, Harvard, Dinner at Bertucci’s, and Blue Man group. All four of us, Abbey, Megan, Paris and myself, work up at 5:00 AM. After an Hour of Getting ready, We went to breakfast at 6:15. We got to Walden Pond around 8-ish. We got to talk to andlearn more about Henry David Thoreau. Then we went to place the rocks from home on the pile of rocks at the place where his shed used to be. It was on the other side of the pond. I was not expecting to be walking around an entire pond. But it was a good experience; even though I’m not a fan of nature. From there we went to the Old Manse House. Ralph Waldo Emerson’s grandfather built the house in 1770. In 1842, Hawthorne and his wife moved in after getting married and lived there for 3 years. During those three years they did not pay their $100 a year rent andcarved things into the windows. They were not very good tenants. Around11 something, we got to the Emerson House, where Emerson lived with his wife and children. We learned there that one of his daughters decided at a young age that she wouldn’t marry andwould go with her father on his tours of the world. We went to Harvard next. We spent a good four hours at Harvard (or Hahvahd). We mostly did some shopping andate food. Then we did a self guided tour of the campus. I never saw a squirrel so I couldn’t send a picture of a Harvard Squirrel to Melany. That took us back to the hotel where we would get ready to eat dinner at Bertucci’s and then Blue Man Group. We ran into major traffic as we drove into Boston and were late to dinner. That resulted in us being half an hour late to Blue Man Group. Dinner was fabulous and I though Blue Man was fantastic. I really want to go see them again. When we got back to the hotel we didn’t have enough time to have “hotel time” and I took a shower and went to bed. That is the first two days and the conclusion to “Boston Part 1,” I’ll finish it tomorrow after school. This is also the 50th post on JDKC. I can’t believe that I’ve done it and I’m really glad that it could be a big one about Boston. But #51 will probably be bigger. And finally I’m really glad to be home. Five days away from my dad was insane. I can’t believe I did it. But I’m home now and don’t have to worry about anything. But Now I’m tired and I’m going to go to bed. Check out tomorrow and remember I’m Jackie and I don’t know crap.
