First off, I was partner-less the entire convention. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced.
I’m more of a shy person when it comes to being around people I don’t know. And that’s exactly what this thing was about. Saving the world with other people representing other countries. I got lucky yesterday when someone motioned to discuss Topic A (which was my topic of knowledge) which was about the global food crisis. It was easy to follow along with the debates and I understood what the resolutions were calling for. I was also a signatory on a number of resolutions. And I think I was pretty successful in knowing what was going on after a while.
Today, however, was a different story. Today Topic B (Bioenergy) was discussed. I felt so useless today. I didn’t think there was a need for me to even be there. Jean texted me the information that I needed for the day and I still didn’t know what anyone was talking about. I wasn’t a sponsor on any resolutions like I had intended to be, but I helped Calvin & Erik and Kara & Alaina pass the resolutions that they were sponsors on.
Maybe if I had had a partner and understood what was going on, I would have done better. But that’s only maybe. I’ll never know for sure. But it was still fun. There were really nice people and we managed to make it a fun experience.
